Years

 

In Esgar the count of years is very different in comparison to our way of counting years. This world keeps counting and adding up numbers to our years. Unlike our world, Esgar does not do this. Instead the years of Esgar are devided in eras. Every era is unique and gets it’s own name. We have yet to discover how these names come about, and there is still no connection between the names of these eras. We know that a new era begins after an important event took place for all of Esgar, so not just for one civilization. The beginning of a new era is called “Birth of…” followed by a name. We have tried to connect the events to the eras that we know, and we have tried to link them to the years in this world. This gave us a pretty good idea of when the first people entered Esgar.

 

Birth Of Góhm

The era of Góhm exists out of seven years. Due to the event of the establishment of “The Seers Of The Brave” in the second year of Góhm, we think that the first people entered Esgar in the first year of Góhm. This made us think that the “Birth of Góhm” began after the first people entered Esgar.

 

Birth Of Dóhn

The era of Dóhn exists out of five years. The most obvious event that could have started this era is the upcoming of the very first religion in Esgar called “Himire”. Altough we are not sure if this is the actual reason, or if it is because their God, the stone-giant Himes, had shown himself. Another possible reason for the “Birth of Yóhn” is the upcoming of “The Woads”, the second civilization in Esgar.

 

Birth Of Brànd

The era of Brànd exists out of twelve years, which makes it the longest era that we know of. We think that the “Banishment of the Woads” has led to the “Birth of Brànd”. This event had a big impact on all three of the civilizations, and also the former leader of “The Clan Of Hollowbrand”, Bors Hollowbrand, who had been executed after being convicted of treason.

 

Birth Of Yóhn

The era of Yóhn exists, just like the era of Dóhn, out of five years. We still have no clue of what could have led to the “Birth of Yóhn”, but we know that it must have had a great impact on all of Esgar, because it has been called out to be a national holiday. Although we don’t know what has started the era of Yóhn, we are pretty sure of what has ended it. In the fifth year of Yóhn(Exact Date: Y5, Cyrt 25th) the end of the biggest war in the history of Esgar, called “The Forgotten War”, led to the end of the era of Yóhn.

 

Birth Of Sýre

The era of Sýre exists out of one year. The only reason that could have led to the “Birth of Sýre” is the end of “The Forgotten War”. Of this we are one-hundred percent sure, because it is stated in the lore and legend of Esgar. The last line(s) of this lore and legend say(s):

 

“The end of a war, which forgotten shall be, the birth of a new world, the Birth of Sýre.”

 

These eras are all that we know of. We are certain that these are not the only eras and that Esgar has not shown every secret to us. We keep looking for documents with information of new eras and events that led to the birth of these eras.
